Anne Leonard
Sketching
at her home in Arizona. |
Anne Leonard has enjoyed drawing and painting all her life. Early on
she studied art at the University of Texas. After raising a family
and retiring from a career in government, she now devotes full time
to her painting. She moved to Arizona three years ago to be near
family. Previously she lived in Reston Virginia where she pursued
her art.
She exhibited locally, was accepted into a number of juried shows
and won awards there through the League of Reston Artists and the
Vienna Arts Society. Since moving to Tucson she has become a juried
member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild and is a member of
Contemporary Artists of Southern Arizona. She has shown her work in
SAWG exhibits as well as other venues in the Tucson area and in
Tubac.
Always exploring, she enjoys the challenges of various media, and is
especially intrigued by the challenges and results that can be
achieved in watercolor and mixed water media. Presently she is
focusing on acrylic, mixed media, and collage.
She attempts to capture the many moods of nature in landscapes, and
the spirit of living creatures in her drawings and paintings of
them. At the same time she is most intrigued by the freedom and
expressiveness that can be achieved in more abstract forms and
uses of color.
Ms. Leonard has lived in and traveled to many places, in the United
States and abroad. She has appreciated each experience and attempted
to express the unique flavors of each in her art. She received her
Bachelor of Arts at the University of Texas and a masters degree in
anthropology at the University of Montana, Missoula. She studied
watercolor with Jean Gill, a nationally recognized watercolorist and
continues to take classes to develop her skills and explore new
techniques and media.
